Douala is the largest city in Cameroon and the capital of Cameroon's Littoral Province. Home to Cameroon's largest port and its major international airport, Douala International Airport, it is the commercial capital of the country. Consequently, it handles most of the country's major exports, such as oil, cocoa and coffee, timber, metals and fruits.
Douala is the richest city in the whole CEMAC region of 11 countries. The city is located on the banks of the Wouri River, the two sides linked by Bonaberi Bridge. Its population in 2008 was recorded at close to 3,000,000.
Douala features a tropical monsoon climate, with relatively constant temperatures throughout the course of the year. The city typically features warm and humid conditions. Douala sees plentiful rainfall during the course of the year, experiencing on average roughly 3850 mm of precipitation of rainfall per year. Its driest month is December where on average 33 mm of precipitation falls while its wettest month is August when on average nearly 800 mm of rain falls.
Getting there and getting around
Douala can be reached in from around 28 locations in UK and Ireland with airlines such as Swiss Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Brussels Airline, Air France, Klm,Afriqiya Airways, Kenya Airways, Royal Air Maroc and TAAG Angola Airlines.
Flights to Douala, the capital city and main air way to the country fly daily from all major airports in the UK. The Douala International Airport (IATA : DLA) serves as the main entrance point in the country. Afriqiyah Airways, Royal Air Morroco, Kenya Airline, Air France and Ethiopian Airline are the main service providers to the city of Douala.
However, flights to Douala with major airlines are not available daily, hence a flexible schedule and a timely reservaiton is required.
